July Highlights

On Wednesday 3 July it’s the next Rosenheim League meeting at Battersea Track and on Thursday 4 July, the fourth Assembly League race of the season takes place on a 5k course in Battersea Park, starting at 7.15pm. Assembly League races are open to all Serpies, with no need to enter in advance. This is also our club home race, so if you’re not planning to run you might think about helping out as a course marshal.
The July club handicap is on Saturday 6 July. All Serpies are welcome, whether a handicap regular or a newbie – there’s no need to sign up in advance. If you haven’t run the handicap before and want to find out more, see the details on the website. On Sunday 7 July, it’s the Olympic distance club triathlon championship – the Bedford Box End Triathlon. Also on 7 July is the next race in the 2013 Summer League, which is a 5-mile race in Perivale. There’s no need to enter in advance and there are also shorter races for juniors and a relay for all. There are bound to be a few Serpies at both the Outlaw long distance triathlon in Nottingham and the Milton Keynes Half Marathon.
On Tuesday 9 July the 3,000m club championship at Paddington will be the final event of the 2013 Grand Prix series and the on following Sunday (14 July) the final club triathlon championship of 2013 – the long distance – will be decided at Challenge Roth.
Monday 15 July is the date of the final Vets track & field meeting which takes place at Battersea.
The fourth fixture in this season’s South Athletics League is on Saturday 20 July at Battersea. This is our home SAL meeting, so we will need lots of officials and helpers in addition to the athletes: contact officials-coordinator@serpentine.org.uk if you can help out. The fourth Summer League fixture of the season is a 10k on Sunday 21 July in Regents Park. For those who prefer trail running, the Fairlands Valley Challenge trail event, also on 21 July, is always popular with Serpies. It is a self navigating route, or alternatively there will be a Serpie group with an experienced leader on the marathon course this year. See event website for more details of the course; details of the Serpie marathon group will be sent to trail running mailing list. On the same day, a highlight for those Serpies who have been invited (and we know of at least two) is the Southern Inter-Counties T&F Championships.
On Wednesday 24 July the penultimate Rosenheim League meeting of 2013 will take place at Tooting Bec. The last weekend of July is bound to see a few Serpies heading for Switzerland to take part in the Swissalpine Davos races over 10, 21, 30, 42 and 78k.
On Saturday 3 August there’s one of the social highlights of the club year – the Summer party – which is being held at the Oyster Shed, a stunning riverside venue. See more details and information on how to buy tickets.
More information about lots of these events are on the Serpie events planner.
