January Highlights

Runner in Hyde Park

On the first Saturday in January, the first club handicap of the year will take place (on the revised course) in Hyde Park. Registration opens at 8:15am and closes 8:55am sharp. Meet BETWEEN THE SERPENTINE CAFE AND THE BOATHOUSE. For new members who haven’t yet managed to collect their club vest or t-shirt, don’t forget the handicap delivery service, so you can be ready to race for the club throughout 2013.

Also on Saturday 5 January are the Middlesex and Surrey Cross Country County Championships, at Wormwood Scrubs and Lloyd Park, Croydon. No entries on the day, but good luck to all Serpies who have pre-entered these championships.

The following weekend has plenty more chances to get muddy, with the ATW Met League on Saturday 12 January at Horsenden Hill, Perivale. The women run 6k, starting at 13.55 and then men run 8k, starting at 14:35 and we’re hoping for an excellent Serpie turnout. There’s no need to pre-enter. Keep an eye on the website, club emails & Facebook for full details.

For those wanting a double helping of cross country fun, there’s the 4th Sunday League cross country race of the season at Royston on Sunday 13 January. Again, no need to pre-enter. Men and women run the same hilly 5-mile course, starting at 10:30am. Keep an eye on the website, club emails & Facebook for full details.

On 19 & 20 January it looks like there’ll be a huge Serpie field running the Box Hill Fell Race and the Winter Tanners. There are no entries on the day for either event, but for those who would like to try out trail running, there will be a social trail run on Sunday 27 January. This will be an easy sociable run of about 10 miles – venue TBA but somewhere a short hop on the train from London. There’s no need to sign up in advance. More details to follow on the website, club emails (subscribe to trail & ultra distance running) & Facebook.
