Welsh Castles Relay – sign-up now!

Runner in Hyde Park

With XC and the road relays out of the way (well done!), and for some only a nice, long run planned for next Sunday, it’s time to think about the annual trip to Wales!

Our men’s and women’s teams will have a good fight on their hands to defend their titles from last year (Winchester are back for the women), and we hope to make a strong showing, storming up a few mountains.

The race starts in Caernarfon in North Wales on Saturday morning (9th June) and ends in Cardiff on Sunday afternoon (10th June), with 20 runners on each team running one stage each between 9 and 13 miles. You can get more details about the race here
http://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/race_welsh_castles.html and here
http://www.lescroupierswcr.org/

This is one of the most prestigious races we do all year, and we would like to hear from everyone interested in racing. Please let us know by the end of April if you want to take part. You can reach us at welshcastles@serpentine.org.uk

Team selection will be based on getting the fastest teams out, so it would help us if you can include recent times. To give you an idea of the standard required to be selected for one of the teams, we won the men's race in 20h54 last year (6min/mile average for 210 miles) and the women's in 24h56 (7:15 min/mile average). Clearly some runners on each team were a lot faster than that and some slower. We are therefore looking for men being able to run faster than 6:30 min/mile and women running faster than 8 min/mile for around 10miles. You have 2 months more training time!

It looks like it will be the last year for Lisa and me to organize WCR, so please step forward to help out, any help appreciated!

Hope to you in Wales,

Paul
