SEAA Fell Racing Championships

Runner in Hyde Park

The Isle of Wight Fell Racing Championships are held each September and Serpentine have become regular competitors — and winners — in the last few years. Almost 40 Serpies raced this year in the three-race series which incorporates the SEAA Championships.

Race 1 – St Boniface Fell (AS) 3 miles 775ft ascent – Paul Jenkinson (9th) and Victoria Crawford (2nd) were the first Serpies across the line in the Saturday morning race. http://www.serpentine.org.uk/rdb/showrace.php?race=7224

Race 2 – Ventnor Horseshoe (BM) 7 miles 1500 ft ascent – Brent Plump (14th) and Victoria Crawford (1st) were top Serpies in the afternoon. http://www.serpentine.org.uk/rdb/showrace.php?race=7225

Race 3 – Wroxall Round (CL) 13 miles 1500 ft ascent – Gavin Murrison (3rd) and Laura Beckwith (1st) were fastest on Sunday. http://www.serpentine.org.uk/rdb/showrace.php?race=7232

We picked up a variety of SEAA medals, but with gold, silver and bronze individual and team awards available in each age-group, in each race, and for the series there were too many to list here. Overall we won 1st men's team, 1st women's team and 1st woman – Vic Crawford. Full results are on the Ryde Harriers website.

In the overall series, we couldn't quite manage our (almost) clean-sweep results of recent years, as most of our usual "A-team" runners were missing, but the women once again won the overall series trophy, with Vic Crawford the overall female winner.

I have some photos of the third race on my website.
