Olympic Distance Club Triathlon Championship

Last Sunday 17 Serpies turned out to compete at the Milton Keynes Olympic Distance Triathlon, which doubled as the Serpentine Olympic Distance Championships and the almost-as-prestigious English Standard Distance Age Group Champs.
Despite the name the race is based some 8 miles outside of Milton Keynes at Emberton Country Park. The course, although notoriously fast consists of a zig-zagging lake swim followed by an undulating single lap bike loop through scenic Buckinghamshire countryside and a three lap pan-flat run, albeit one with a couple of off-road smaller loops and switchbacks to beef up the distance.
Fastest male Serpies were James Gwyther (2:07:12), Andrew Harrison (2:11:47) and Jon Watts (2:12:02) with the fastest females being Christine Lutsch (2:18:03), Liz Whiting (2:26:00) and Anna Diamantopoulos (2:46:05). As an indication of the quality of the field the top 50 (of 450 finishers) all completed the course in under 2:10!
Championship race or not I'd recommend the event to anyone as a lower key, higher quality alternative to the London Triathlon with a course that's as good as Windsor for scenery and as fast as Dorney Lake for times. See you there next year!
