Club 1 mile championship results

Over 80 runners from Serpentine and Queen's Park Harriers took part in the club 1 mile championship at Willesden Stadium last night and with so many athletes we needed seven heats. The evening's racing began with a super-vets race and finished with the races for fastest men and women.
Sandy Wilson was the clear winner of the women's race, running a time-trial all on her own way out in front and finishing within 4 seconds of the club record in 5:09.5
The men's race was won by second claim member Mohammed Ismail who came from behind on the last lap and stormed past Hugh Torry who had been leading up to that point. He finished in 4:33.2 but is not eligible for the championship trophy which goes to Hugh, who finished in 4:37.3
The age-graded trophy was won by Catkin Shelley who achieved 83.4% with her time of 5:45.1
Thanks to Malcolm French, Alex Openshaw, Lars Olsen, Brent Plump, Claire Shelley, Sally Hodge, Dan Lewington, Alan Agarat, Michelle Homden, Sammy Li and Gavin Edmunds for their help on the night.
