Crystal Palace Triathlon Report

We had another great turnout for the club sprint triathlon championship at Crystal Palace. A day that at first looked like it might be a complete wash out turned out fine for the Serpentine start if not a little breezy out on the bike. This year we had the opportunity of the club start which meant we mostly started together making for a nice team atmosphere in the pool and a little more competitiveness out on the bike and run. The 9 laps seemed to confuse a lot of competitors with 24 DQ's for too few laps (2 of which were Serpies), 30 people did 10 or more laps and 3 lucky people got to go round more than 10 times.
We put out the biggest field and won the mob rankings which moves us to 1st overall for mob rankings, but we still need a good turn out at the remaining races to hold onto this. Overall we came 4th with our scorers being Chris Graham – 11th overall despite the hangover, Zoe Birchenough – 9th female a result that should see her move up from 3rd in the individual rankings, Angus Beaumont – 17th overall, Alex Elferink – 27th overall & James Moon our scoring Vet 13th in his age group.
This result now puts us 3rd overall in the league with very little between us and 2nd there is everything still to play for with only 3 races left. There are still places for the clash of the tritons aquathlon on the 13th August http://www.greenwichtritons.org.uk/2011-race-details.html and with our success at Kingfisher we have proved that we can win these. If you're not already signed up then please do, we especially need a fast 40+
Well done to all that raced, once again you have all played your part in our continued success in the London League. It was great to see all the Tri Squad guys out racing, the coaching is clearly paying off with Jonathan Watts posting the 5th fastest combined transition time.
Congratulations to Chris Graham and Zoe Birchenough the new club sprint triathlon champions.
Serpie results are here.
