Good results at National Road Relays

Our road captains were seriously challenged this year with all sorts of injuries, excuses (good and not so good) and other reasons making team selection somewhat harder than it could have been. In the end we managed to get four teams together and 36 Serpies headed to Sutton Park for the annual challenge of the 12 and 6 stage road relays.
The men's A team turned out to be rather good! Nick Torry broke a very long-standing club record for the long-leg with a 26:59 and 13th place. By the end of a long afternoon of racing the A team finished in 4:27:31 and 19th place. The first time we've dipped under 4:30 and the first time into the top-20. This is a seriously good result so well done to the team.
Meanwhile the B team (who qualified for only the 2nd time ever in Serpie history) finished in 4:56:50 and 49th place (from over 60 team racing). Well done guys.

In parallel with the men's race, the women's 6 stage race was also taking place. Becky Glover got our A team off to a good start, getting close to the club record for this event, and with many of our A team regulars missing it's a credit to the strength of our women's team that they finished in 13th place (equal to their best ever) in 1:54:28. Unfortunately our B team did not finish because team captain Natalie Kolodziej suffered an injury and was unable to start. She'd deliberately put herself on the last leg so the other five women all got to race (and get a time)
