Female Nutrition Seminars

Dear Female members of Serpentine,

It has come to our attention that there is a real interest within the club for some focused sessions on Nutrition. In particular, nutrition for females in the club. Nutrition is something that is hard to get right, but an understanding of the basics can do wonders for your training, racing and day-to-day work and play.  We have taken this on board and planned a series of sessions on Nutrition aimed at females in Serpentine.

We all join Serpentine for different reasons. For some it is to lose weight, some to just maintain a healthy weight and keep fit, others for training and racing. It is our aim that these sessions will cover topics that appeal to those who join as beginners through to experienced racers. We have invited qualified nutritionists and dieticians to lead the sessions, however there will be plenty of opportunity for open talk and discussion.

There is no obligation to attend every session; you may find some sessions are of more interest to you than others and this is fine. The sessions will be held once a month after the club runs on a Wednesday night.

The first three sessions for females are scheduled as follows:

Session One – 12 January 2011: 'Nutrition for Female Runners.'  Presenter: Clare Riches, Nutritionist (and fellow member of Serpentine)

Session Two – 9 February 2011: 'Running and Iron Levels.'  Presenter: Henrietta Bailey, Nutritional Therapist – Pure Sports Medicine

Session Three – 9 March 2011: 'Osteoporosis and Running.'  Presenter: TBC

We will advertise these again closer to the days with time and location details, and more information on what will be covered in the sessions. But hopefully the females in the club will see these as useful and informative sessions.

We are very much committed to making this initiative a success and hope that you will get a lot out of the sessions.

Please note that we are aware that nutrition can sometimes be a difficult and confronting subject and as a result these initial three sessions are for females only. There is also a similar initiative being undertaken for the Serpentine men. Stay tuned for more information.
