Summer League Race report from Regents Park 25/7 & details of the last race of 2010
Serpentine's home race (please bake!)
We had an excellent turnout of over 50 Serpies and several very enthusiastic kids (2 of whom ran the tenderfoot, fun run & the relay!) for the 4th Summer League (10k) race in Regents Park on Sunday 25th July. Congratulations to Eric Vamben & Barney Southin (1st & 2nd men – 33.42 & 33.53 respectively) & to Teresa Gaillard De Laubenque, Catherine Higgs & Jennifer Bradley (1st, 2nd & 3rd women – 38.52, 41.25 & 41.31 respectively) and to all the relay teams – a clean sweep!
The results are now on the website: http://www.serpentine.org.uk/rdb/showrace.php?race=6181&index=club&order=up&gender=separate
Serpentine are hosting the final (5th) race in the Summer League series. It is a 5 mile race in Battersea Park on Sunday 15th August at 9.30am. Please see below for all the details.
The 2 main changes this year are the start/finish locations and the timing of the kids fun run & the tenderfoot race.
Map
Timings
9.30am Senior Open Race 5 miles (3 lap flat anticlockwise course inside the park on paths) *
* Note: this year we are swapping the start/finish locations around, and will be running the race anticlockwise instead of clockwise. The race will start outside the Millennium Arena, but please leave bags at the finish (by the Children’s Zoo). You will be walked to the start so please arrive promptly. If you want a route map, showing the start/finish locations please e-mail summerleague@serpentine.org.uk
10.30am Kids fun run (approx. 400m on grass) – note new time
10.45am Tenderfoot (approx. 1,500m on paths) – note new time
11am Relays (on grass)
You don't have to enter in advance – just bring your Serpie top and make sure your club membership is up to date. It also helps us if you sign up on the planner just so we know roughly how many people to expect on the day. If you have any sons, daughters, nieces or nephews, etc. who might like to take part in the kids fun run, the 1.5k tenderfoot race (they will get a certificate) or the relays please do bring them along. It’s a great family day out and we get lots of extra points for children!
Volunteers
As Serpentine are hosting this race we need lots of volunteers to help with timekeeping, manning the water station, marshalling the course, etc. So if you can help in any way please sign up on the planner as “will help” and we will be in touch nearer the time. In addition to the great feeling of helping the club, as a special reward Serpie volunteers will be eligible to run in the relays without needing to have run in the Senior Open 5m race or tenderfoot race!
Refreshments
It is up to the host club (that’s us!) to provide food and refreshments for all runners so if you are running, marshalling or supporting PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show off your baking skills and bring something along for the refreshment table. The type of thing we are looking for are cakes, cookies, sandwiches, pasta salads, quiches, flapjacks, fruit, crisps, nuts, jelly babies, etc. We have had some great spreads put on by Dulwich Park Runners, Metros, ESM & Mornington Chasers so we have got a lot to live up to! If everyone brings something fairly substantial we should have more than enough for everyone.
Transport – please check for any engineering works on your route
Overland trains – Battersea Park & Queenstown Road stations are the closest
Tube – Sloane Square is the closest
Buses – 19, 44, 49, 137, 156, 239, 319, 344, 345 & 452
Driving – there are a number of pay & display car parks in the park including one very close to the race meeting point at Chelsea Gate
Changing/toilets
There are showers & changing facilities available at the Millennium Arena (previously known as Battersea Park Athletics track) free of charge. Please mention at reception that you are there for the Serpentine Summer/Sunday League. Please do not use the lockers at the Arena, most people leave their bags near the finish but these are left entirely at your own risk.
