Advanced Marathon Seminar with Martin Rush – Monday, August 15th

Hi Serpies,
over the last couple of weeks I have been pulling together a marathon seminar targeted
for athletes aspiring to national standard. This is relevant to all those who are aiming to
run a fast autumn marathon or thinking of a spring marathon next year and aiming to
run sub 3:00 (women) and sub 2:45 (men) and faster.
Our guest speaker will be Martin Rush. Martin is the England Athletics National Coach
Mentor for Endurance and responsible for improving endurance coaching across the
regions. Martin has coached Olympic, World Cup and Commonwealth walkers, and GB
marathon, track and XC runners. Currently his coaching group includes Holly Rush,
Kairn Stone and Susie Hignett. As an athlete he competed at the highest level, 1992
Olympic Games in Barcelona in the 20k walk and is a former UK record holder. He also
acted as UKA High Performance Manager and is a frequent speaker at conferences.
The session will be facilitated by Dave Chalfen (England Athletics) and myself. We
would to tap into Martin’s wealth of experience and like to cover a couple of themes:
- How to accomodate marathon training in the Cross Country season?
- How do we make the transition from sub 3:00 to 2:45 and from 2:45 to 2:30?
- What’s a good plan? What’s a bad plan?
- What are the key sessions in an effective marathon plan?
- What races to select during the marathon build up?
- How to phase in specificity in a micro and macro cycle?
- What are the pros and cons of the various carbo loading regimes?
Of course you can bring your own questions along for the Q&A session.
The seminar will be held Monday, August, 15th at:
