Green Belt Relay – 22nd/23rd May 2010

The Green Belt Relay takes place over the weekend of 22nd/23rd May 2010. The race is a two day, multi-stage, multi-terrain relay around London’s Greenbelt countryside and surrounding towns.
Starting in Hampton Court the route is divided into 22 sections (between 5.7 and 13.8 miles each), which are run as 11 races per day. Courses are waymarked but some map-reading or navigational skill is useful! Teams consist of 11 runners so this means that runners must run at least twice, once on each day of the race. This is pretty tough as you are racing two days in a row, but it’s also great fun and, as many of you will know, this is one of best Serpie weekends away as well as being an excellent race.
We travel around the course in a few minibuses, supporting other runners as we go. On Saturday night we’ll stay at our usual hotel in Basildon, near the half-way point. Everyone should plan to stay overnight as there is no time to drop-off/pick-up people over the weekend. The hotel will cost £26 B&B per person, sharing a twin room. There’s some details of how the weekend works in this PDF , and on the Stragglers website.
Serpentine have entered four teams so far this year, and based on previous years, every Serpie who registers will get to run on a team. If we get lots of interest, we’ll enter a fifth team. All standards welcome as the cut-off pace is 10min/mile.
We need drivers and navigators so please volunteer if you can help. If you’d like to help me organising some of the other logistics, like dealing with the minibus rental companies, I’d really welcome it!
Once again we are using EntryCentral to handle registration, and require a non-refundable deposit of £28 which will cover the cost of transport and dinner. All drivers will get their deposit refunded as a gesture of thanks.
