Serpentine Women’s Tri Squad 2010

We are now accepting applications to join us for training/coaching up to and including the 2010 tri season. A slight change to previous years is that this tri squad is aimed at female athletes who want to step up to Half Ironman distance in 2010
Who is this for?
The Tri Squad is for female athletes who:
– have competed in a number of triathlons over at least one season and at least one Olympic distance race
– can show evidence of consistent training in 2009
– are able to ride confidently 80km/50miles on a road bike
– have completed training runs up to 10 miles
The Tri Squad is NOT for anyone training for an Ironman or a marathon in 2010
What do you need to commit?
We will expect you to:
– train to peak for two Half Ironman races of your choice (we will target races in June and in September)
– enter triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and running races as appropriate
– commit to one squad training session/week most likely held in South or West London
– commit to regular triathlon training (up to 9 hours/week)
What you can expect from the Squad:
– a squad training environment
– assistance to build a training programme
– structured group training
– access to level 3 British Triathlon performance coaches
– access to specialists (nutritionist, sports psychologist, physio, bike mechanic etc.)
– weekend training camp
Your coaches
Beate Vogt – Level 2 British Triathlon coach (working towards level 3) amongst many other qualifications. Beate has been competing in triathlons for over 20 years. Read more here: http://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/coach_beate_vogt.html
Katie Crowe – Level 2 British Triathlon coach. Katie has been competing in triathlons for 5 years, more recently at Ironman and mid-distance. Read more here: http://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/coach_katie_crowe.html
Jenny Gowans – Jenny is on the road to becoming a qualified tri coach and will be finished her level 2 by the start of the season. Jenny has been racing long distance tris for a number of years, most successfully qualifying for and competing at the World Champs in Hawaii.
Julie Payne – Julie will be assisting the coaching team this year. She has been involved in triathlon for a number of years and has amassed a number of great performances in middle and long distance racing.
What next?
If you are interested please email us by 31st October with your background in the sport, including any relevant race results and what your racing plans are for 2010.
We will be holding a pre-squad meeting to explain everything in detail on Monday 9th November at 7pm in the Club room (compulsory to attend). At this stage we’ll be able to give you some guidance on what you should be doing over the winter to start building your endurance. Then the squad will start together properly in January.
Cost
We break the season into three ‘terms’ – January to March, April to June, July to September. This is so that we can monitor progress and commitment more easily. There will be a charge for each term of £50 per squad member. This £50 is NOT a coaching fee – the cost will cover payment for external speakers (such as the nutritionist/ sports psychologist) and the hire of pool lanes for our swim sessions. It will be paid directly to the club.
Please contact us with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
The Ladies tri-squad coaching team
