Volunteers sought for ITU races in Hyde Park – 16 August

British Triathlon in partnership with Lagardère/Upsolut will hold a leg of the inaugural ITU Dextro Energy Triathlon World Championship Series on the weekend of 15th/16th August 2009 in Hyde Park. The series consists of seven World Championship events worldwide and a Grand Final, all featuring live television. A record $2million will be at stake in the battle to become ITU’s 2009 world champion.
The best triathletes from around the world will race head to head over the Olympic distance in the ITU event for the £125,000 prize purse. The women’s elite race will take place at 10:00hrs, with the men’s race at 13:10hrs on Saturday 15th August. There will also be youth (18:45hrs), junior (07:00hrs) and paratriathlon (16:30hrs) races and an expo (09:00-18:00 Sat & Sun), in addition to an Age Group Sprint Race on Sunday 16th August from 09:00hrs.
The event will require a minimum of 300 volunteers and Triathlon London are keen to enlist the services of triathletes and clubs within the region to help the event run smoothly, particularly those with previous event experience. In order to volunteer for this, you need to complete the registration form on the Register as a Triathlon London Volunteer page (www.triathlonlondon.org/Volunteers/RegisterasaTriathlonLondonVolunteer/tabid/340/Default.aspx ). Triathlon London will keep a register of regional volunteers and will contact you when volunteer opportunities, such as this, arise within the London region.
Hyde Park is the venue for the London 2012 Olympic Triathlon events. Further details of 2012 preparations are on the London 2012 page (www.triathlonlondon.org/AboutUs/London2012/tabid/149/Default.aspx). Volunteers for 2012 MUST be registered on the 2012 website to be picked for the Olympics and previous experience in volunteering will be a big advantage.
