Sepies 12th in National Open Masters Relay Championships

Three Serpies waved the Club flag at the blustery but mercifully dry National Masters Road Relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham, on 16 May, forming one of 36 M60 teams entered, representing everywhere from Southampton to South Shields. Adrian Lloyd held his own in a fierce first leg of the undulating three-mile course in 20:22, after dodging through a pile-up at the start. Charles Doxat (20:26) moved up a whole eight M60 places in the second leg to put us at 16th position. David Smart (19:52) bagged four more places in a fast final leg, to bring us in at 1:00:40 overall, 12th out of 28 complete teams to finish. Oxford City won the M60 category in 53:22.
A good outing, but it would be great to field Serpie teams in a few more categories (including our lovely ladies) in 2010.
