National Road Relay Championships

Runner in Hyde Park

Eighteen Serpies travelled to Sutton Coldfield on Saturday to represent the
club in the English National Road Relay Championships. The 12-stage (men’s)
and 6-stage (women’s) races are held each April and attract the top runners
from every major club in England so they are a real benchmark of how well a
club is performing compared to its peers. Serpentine have only managed to
send teams to the nationals in recent years — 2006 was the first time — and
this year was probably our most successful.

The men’s team finished in 4:32:38, their fastest ever time, in 30th
place.
The women’s team finished in 1:53:32, just a few seconds slower than their
fastest ever result (in 2008) and equalling their highest position of
19th.

Congratulations to team captains Andrew Reeves and Jane Fanning.
