English National X/C Champs: Sat, 21 Feb – Hampstead Heath

Runner in Hyde Park

The English National Cross Country Championships will take place at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath on Saturday, 21 February.

Women will run 8km, starting at 2.15pm. Men will run 12km, starting at 3.00pm.

Please note that both races will start promptly and before other races on the programme have finished. Take care not to miss your start time.

Chip timing will be used. You must arrive in time to collect both your race number and timing chip. Also, you must report to the start area 15 minutes before your race. The full race programme starts at 11.05am.

You must run in a Serpie Running Club top, not a Tri top. Course is always very muddy and suitable off-road shoes are essential. It is likely that 12mm spikes or longer will be needed as there are some stepp descents on the course.

If you arrive late and attempt to run the course unofficially, you will be banned from all Championship races during the 2009-2010 season. This follow complaints about a male Serpentine runner doing this during the recent SEAA Championships at Uxbridge.

Race entries have closed. Number swapping is not permitted.

We will meet at the north-east end of the athletics track, close to the children’s play area and the Football Changing Rooms. Map reference www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=528000&y=185900&z=1&sv=528000,185900&st=OSGrid&lu=N&tl=Streetmap&ar=y&bi=~&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf

I understand that male changing, showers, etc will be available at the Lido and female changing will be at the Track and the adjoining Football Changing Rooms.

Travel – I would strongly advise you to use public transport. “Residents Only” parking restrictions apply in all surrounding streets until 1.30pm. Belsize Park tube (Northern Line) is about 1 mile distance, as is Tuffnel Park. Gospel Oak (Overground – North London Line) adjoins the Heath entrance.
Bus route 214 runs from Kings Cross, via Kentish Town (Northern Line) to Highgate Road every 10 minutes. Ask to get off at the Parliament Hill Fields stop. The bus journey from Kings Cross takes about 45 minutes but you can pick up the 214 and C2 buses opposite Kentish Town Tube station.
