Club Triathlon Relays

Runner in Hyde Park

At the National Club triathlon relay championships in Nottingham yesterday, our ‘A’ team of Toby Radcliffe, Jenny Gowans, Helen Mussen and Andrew Mercer won the bronze medal for a mixed team in the National Championships in an exciting race where our position wasn’t really decided until the last leg of the run!

The relays – 4x500m swim, 4x15km bike and 4x5km run – had a record number of entrants this year, with around 430 teams of 4 competing on Saturday, over 200 in the morning and again in the afternoon. Set in the National Watersports Centre there is a grandstand view of the whole race, and with big gaps between each discipline there’s plenty of time to support everyone else, making it one of the most exciting days racing you can have as a competitor, as well as for those just supporting. It’s not just for the fast people as well and we weren’t the only club to have many first-time triathletes having a go.

Nine Serpie teams were racing, from die-hard triathletes to at least one person better know for track and field athletics, proving that Serpies really are a multi talented club.

A big thanks to Neil Melville and Julie Payne for organising our teams.
