English National Cross Country Championships

Well done to everyone who ran in Saturday’s English National Championships, held in a picturesque, rural setting in the Derbyshire Dales. I thought it was an excellent course with some fast downhill sections balanced by a climb that came straight from the fells. The venue was compact, meaning that spectators could easily view the whole course and enjoy the excellent racing.
It was interesting to see how we matched up against clubs from the whole of England. The full results can be found on http://www.englishcrosscountry.co.uk/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 and as you’ll see, the men’s 6-to-score team came 20th out of 99 closing teams with the 9-man team finishing 14th out of 40. The ladies teams finished 33rd out of 61.
This brings Serpentine’s 2007-8 cross country season to a close, save that for those of you age 35+ there is the British Masters Championships, to be held in Banbury on Saturday, 29 March. If you’re interested in running in this, you need to contact Adrian Lloyd on mailto:adrianlloyd@bcsb.org.uk within the next couple of days, as the closing date for entries is rapidly approaching.
We’ll be having an end of season awards get together, which is likely to be on Wednesday, 26 March at the Duke of York (just around the corner from Seymour). More info to follow.
Finally, Angie and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this cross country season, both the runners, and especially those of you who have helped with team administration and all the people to have turned out to help as marshals and officials at the races.
