Welsh Castles Relay report

What a weekend! We all made it to Cardiff Castle to celebrate a glorious win for our girls over a strong Winchester team, getting that coveted trophy back. Well done to all of them, and especially Louisa Ruderman as team captain for forming such a strong team, congratulations!
The boys didn’t fare quite that well, ending up in 3rd place, but how we got there is a long story. Having come out with a strong team, ably managed by Andy Davies as team captain, we saw some brilliant running and stage wins, but disaster struck twice with our runners needing medical attention. However, having a team that can recover from these problems and still come 3rd was brilliant, well done to everyone!
Obviously there were loads of helpers working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything went smoothly. Many thanks to team captains Louisa and Andy, Lisa Pettit for
accommodation, Anneli MacDonald for sorting out the minibuses, Lars Olsen for producing the paperwork, Louise Croxson for organizing the Saturday meal, Andy Reeves for computer assistance, and everyone else who helped with all of these small jobs (like Gowan buying water).
It couldn’t have happened without our drivers, many thanks for responding to my urgent pleas when we needed you. Special thanks to Gary for staying with the minibus when it broke down yet again on Sunday, Justin for committing to drive a minibus round Wales even though he knew he was only on the reserve list, and Brad, Lionnel and Hugh coming out as travelling reserves. Sorry if I forgot anyone …
Thanks must go to the Red Cross for helping our runners in need, in Cardiff everyone looked like they had recovered well, let’s hope we don’t need their assistance next year.
Thanks a lot to everyone for coming out and making this a special weekend, it couldn’t have happened without you.
