National 12 stage road relays

Runner in Hyde Park

At the same time as the women were racing the 6 stage relays, our men’s team were competing in a fiercely competitive 12 stage race over a similar course (6x 5.38 miles plus 6x 2.995 miles), finishing 39th in 4:43:08

It’s pretty difficult getting a strong team of 12 up to Birmingham and I’d like to thank Andy for doing a great job getting the guys out. I know it wasn’t quite his ‘dream team’ but these things never are. They’re still the 39th fastest club team in England! Just look through the results to see the quality of the competition – easily the highest standard of racing any club runner is ever likely to compete in.

The winners were Leeds City AC in 4:11:31

Our individual times/places were:
Darren McNeely (58) 29:57
Andrew Davies (60) 17:00
Andrew Reeves (46) 29:23
Richard Phillips (47) 17:08
Miguel Branco (48) 30:36
Will Townsend (47) 17:46
Andrew Mercer (48) 31:41
Chris Blackburn (45) 15:59
Barney Southin (43) 29:25
Simon Massey (43) 17:02
Robin Tuddenham (41) 30:45
Simon Barrett (40) 16:26

As with the women, some of them will be lining up on the championship start at the London marathon next week.

(I know there’s only nine in the photo, some guys left early!)
