South of England Cross-Country Championships

Runner in Hyde Park

With many of our better male runners failing to race in these championships this year, the men\’s team didn\’t do as well as last year. It\’s a shame because it was a beautiful day and the course was superb: gently hilly, with mostly grass underfoot and hardly any mud since it was well drained. Well done to the guys which did race who came a creditable 18th from 38 teams. However, with only 9 runners there was no way we were going to retain the trophy we won last year for the 12 man team.

The women on the other hand improved significantly over last year with a stronger team and some great running: Barbara Yff making her return to a Serpie team for the first time in many months placing 14th overall and the next 5 women all within a couple of minutes of each other.

Full Serpie results are in the results database or follow the link for the championship results tables.
