David Lipscomb Trophy

Thanks to Angie for organising the recent T&F presentation evening. The astute amongst you may have noticed an award which was presented for the first time. This was for the newly formed Div 4 Men\’s team, which came into being due to the previous Div 4 team gaining promotion in 2005. T&F trophies are named after members who have provided a significant service to the club in T&F. The club decided to name this trophy after David \’Lippy\’ Lipscomb.
Lippy has been a major contributor to Serpentine T&F, and whilst an excellent thrower, has taken part in a wide range of events on the track and in the field over many years. He participated in all 3 divisions of Serpie teams this season, and was a major contributor to the promotion winning 2005 team. Additionally Lippy has taken over captaincy of the Men\’s Masters team this season, converting them from a skeleton outfit in the previous season, to a strong team which achieved 2nd place in their division this season. He also loaded all the 2006 Serpie T&F results into the database, and participated in and officiated in the Rosenheim League for the club. And of course there is all his coaching efforts over the years, his service to the club as Honorary Secretary, and no doubt a whole bundle of other things which I\’m either not aware of or have slipped my mind
As you can see, David is thoroughly deserving of this honour, congratulations to him. It is also highly appropriate that the inaugural winner of this award is Tony McGahan, perhaps our greatest ever T&F athlete, who we believe has now represented the club at over 100 Southern men\’s League fixtures (not bad at 5 or 6 per year) and hasn\’t missed a single fixture since his 1st outing.
