SML T&F season complete

Well another season of SML T&F is over already. Though it\’s often taken some effort, we\’ve got around 30-35 athletes out for most rounds (and probably 50-60 in total), with some outstanding performances.
Since none of the captains have written anything this week(!!!!), I\’ll try and sum up the final matches from what I\’ve seen and heard:
Div 1 came 4th at Dartford, though should have perhaps been 2nd, dropping some points where they should have been taken. There were some great performances, and another club record with Andy Nathan shaving 0.1 off the 400m time he set last match, finishing in 49.0. Well done Andy. In some other highlights I\’ve heard about, both our Javelin throwers Keston & Kelroy both threw over 50m, Eric Vamben became the 5th fastest Serpie of all time over 5000m with a superb 15:29, and the rapidly improving Jasyn Savage became the clubs 2nd longest discus thrower for the season, behind only uber-athlete Fynn Corcoran, with 33.36m.
They finished the season 14th of the 25 teams, and will be looking to finish strongly in the top half next season. Well done to Robin, Danny and the rest of the guys.
The Div 3 team travelled to Portsmouth and sealed their position in Div 3 for next year with a 3rd placing. The database results indicate an amazing 17 personal bests were set. Everyone will be elated to know that despite his best efforts, Paul Fromme\’s mammoth 23 second Steeplechase PB wasn\’t quite good enough to beat my PB – keep trying Frombles!!! Well done to captain Charles Lescott, and all the guys, several of whom made sacrifices to get themselves to Portsmouth on Saturday. Special thanks to Aari Bradshaw who answered my pleas at the last minute at Tuesday track (and did the 110m Hurdles at his first time at a track meet!), Caspar Prestridge who squeezed the meet in between morning and evening commitments, and Frombles who came straight from the airport after being in the US (might explain why he didn\’t beat my time!)
The Div 3 team finished 13th of 16 teams, a commendable effort in their first season after promotion. Don\’t forget the opposition are all dedicated T&F specialist clubs. The guys are well and truly capable of being in the top half of the division, as they showed when they lost to 3rd place getters Eastbourne by just 2 points. A little more consistency in the team make up is perhaps all that is needed. Thanks to Charles Lescott, Andy Davies & Andy Reeves who between them captained the team this year (see what I mean about consistency!)
Div 4 were captained by Mr Rosenheim Lars Menken this time round. Once everyone actually turned up (well done to the ever dependable Tony McGahan who was the entire team for the 1st 2 events!), the guys performed well, finishing 2nd. Again PB\’s were coming thick and fast, 10 in total.
The Div 4 team have been a revelation this season, finishing an outstanding 6th in the league. This is the first time we have had 3 SML teams, and for our 3rd team to compete so well against other club\’s A or B teams was outstanding. Well done guys.
Many thanks to the officials who make it all possible, this week Angie, Malcolm and Helen were out there doing a fine job. Many thanks also to Charles, who has not only competed well all season, but also officiated at the same time, and sorted out the officials as well. Thanks also to Lippy for putting all the results in the database, and Derek for helping compile the results.
Thanks to everyone who has competed this season, and hope to see you all and many others next season, which will kick off April / May, hopefully starting with Serpentine Decathlon III. In the meantime get out and support Lars and the club at the Rosenheim final, and there is a trophy match on the 19th August at Greenford. Last chance for a new PB!
