National Club Triathlon Relays

With a very crowded August calendar and many Serpies preparing for Ironman UK, we didn’t have our best triathletes competing but we still gave it our best and everyone had a good time. Perhaps next year our more elite triathletes can field a team or two and get Serpies onto the podium? I’m sure we could!
Saturday morning saw the women, vets and mixed teams competing. There were 155 teams and the winners completed the race in a time of 03:11:33. First Serpies to finish were JENI VLAHOVIC, RACHEL BROUGH, PIPPA STOKES & NATASHA WEDRYCHOWSKI in a time of 04:09:17.
In the afternoon, it was the men’s turn. Would the ‘runners’ team of ANDREW DAVIES, IAN DRUCE, JUSTIN LOCK & ANDREW REEVES beat the ‘cyclists’ team of CHARLES BARCLAY, DARREN HINCKS, NICK PAINE & NEIL MELVILLE? After over 3 hours of racing, it came down to the last run, with Andy overtaking Neil to put the runners in the lead and the first Serpie team over the line in 03:27:54 (the winning team completed the race in a time of 03:05:50 and there were 94 teams).
Well done to Simon Gardner and Robin Gray, both of whom raced in the morning AND afternoon races!
