Track and field men’s team promoted to division 3

Runner in Hyde Park

On Saturday, July 30, the division 4 T&F team once again made their way to Dartford. Being in second place before the meeting, 1 point clear on the opposition from Herne Hill and Paddock Wood we “just” needed to win this one last meeting against Worthing, Swale and Kingston & Polytec to keep clear of the opposition.

We didn’t take any chances and replaced some regular div 4 stars who were running in Davos with other strong runners from the club and additionally finding new talents in existing members of the team (check out Jamie’s high jump!). Starting strong into the meeting the opposition faded away fast and it was clear for us that the battle for promotion changed into an easy ride into division 3 (the hard work was done in previous meetings). Our middle distance runners were unchallenged, our throwers were strong in the competition and our sprinters and jumpers were doing their job. It was a bit like the last day in the Tour de France, you know who won and you just went for a bit of glory here and there.

And there was some glory for us as well, 6 PBs and once again a 4 x 400 relay in under 4 minutes. And of course the victory lap after the competition was over, which the team used to throw team captain Justin Lock into the still filled steeple chase pit. We plan to have a another celebration soon.

Team captain Justin Look wants to thank all people who supported the team through the season. The team is especially grateful for the ones who traveled to officiate and to support.
