Secretary's Shield awarded

At the club's AGM held on Wednesday 15 September, the Secretary's Shield was awarded to Philip Whitehouse, Owen Barder and Marco Viappiani for their significant contributions to the website project throughout the year

Having responsibility for awarding the Secretary's Shield is undoubtedly one of the particularly pleasant aspects of the role as secretary of the Serpentine Running Club. The Shield was donated by James Godber, the then Honorary Secretary, in 1986, and is awarded annually to the club member or members who, in the personal judgement of the Honorary Secretary, has greatly contributed to the club, above and beyond what might be expected from an ordinary member.

This year, as with other years, was a difficult decision, not least because there are so many volunteers who do such amazing things for the club, whether training, marshalling or officiating, particularly as a result of having to deal withthe COVID-19 pandemic.

However, this year the Secretary's Shield was awarded to Philip Whitehouse, Owen Barder and Marco Viappiani for their significant contributions to the website project throughout the year, under Sarah Maisey’s careful project management, with thanks also to Ivan Gowan and Catherine Wilding for their contributions and for agreeing to help with the next stage of the project.
