Serpie Capital Ring Runs: Last Two Stages

Hello Serpies,

We are reaching the end of the summer Serpie Capital Ring Run project with just two final stages to go. These will take place on Sunday 12th September (Hanwell to Hendon) and Sunday 26th September (Hendon to Stoke Newington). We have chosen these dates to try and avoid clashes with other running events taking place around this time. We hope you will join us!

Sunday 12th September: Stage 5 (aka Stage H - 14 miles) - Hanwell via Harrow to Hendon, and quite hilly!

This stage starts at Hanwell Railway Station where we finished last time and will take us through half of section 8, section 9 and section 10 of the Transport for London schedule. The route is about 14 miles and will be hilly in parts. We will roughly follow the River Brent to Perivale Park and on to Greenford. From there we run along the Grand Union Canal, over Horsenden Hill and through Harrow-on-the-Hill, passing Harrow School, attended by Winston Churchill. From there we go through South Kenton, Preston Park and into Fryent Country Park where you will get a view of Wembley Stadium in the distance. The route follows the Welsh Harp Reservoir on the North bank for about a mile before we end our run in Hendon.

If you want to come on this run please sign up before noon on Friday 10th September.

Sunday 26th September: Final Stage (12 miles) - Hendon to Stoke Newington

This is the last stage of our adventure and starts at Hendon Central Train Station. From Hendon to Stoke Newington is about 12 miles and will take us through sections 11 and 12 of the Transport for London schedule. This route will pass through Highgate, taking in Brent Park (look out for terrapins!), Cherry Tree, Highgate and Queen’s Wood. From there we run along Parkland Walk which used to be an old railway line, through Finsbury Park, past Woodbury Wetlands, through Clissold Park and Abney Park Cemetery to Stoke Newington. We are now back to the very start of our Serpie Capital Ring Run adventure.

If you want to come on this run please sign up before noon on Friday 24th September.

Serpies enjoying a well earned rest at the end of the last run

Can I still join you if I haven’t run any of the other stages?

Of course! Any Serpies out there who haven’t run before are very welcome to join us for these last stages. For anyone who missed it, the Ring Runs are a series of Serpentine-organised trail runs around the Capital Ring - a 78-mile route around the suburban greenery of London.

Please note that you need to be a current Serpentine RC member to take part.  Not a member yet but want to run with us?  Join us here

How fast do you run, will I manage to keep up?

These runs are fun, social events open to all - some choose to run fast, others choose to take it more slowly. We tend to start off together and organically break into smaller groups. No one will be left behind. If you are able to run 10k in roughly 70 minutes, you should be able to run the majority of it.

How do you find the way?

This is an opportunity to explore outer London, socialise with other Serpies and practise those important navigation skills. Running is mainly on long distance footpaths, with plenty of sign posts and never far from public transport. TfL recommends the Go Jauntly app to help with navigation.

Want to join us for other of the last stages?

Even though Covid restrictions have lifted, we require you to sign up in advance before coming, so that we can gather contact tracing information. It will also give us an idea about grouping, and allow us to know numbers in order to book a few tables in a pub.

To sign up, please fill in your details here. In particular, let us know if you are happy to be a ‘group leader’ (who will make sure we don’t lose anyone and also will act as emergency contact), or if you have any specific needs. Weather is changeable so check the forecast before you set out and come prepared - we will run come rain or shine!

Any questions – please email Lindsey Chiswick.

Looking forward to having you join us!
