Interested In Becoming A Serpie Track & Field Official? (Or Are You an Official Already?)

Hello Serpies,

Ever thought about being the person starting track races with a starting gun, or the official measuring distances of long jump performances? When you watch the Tokyo Olympics this summer, you may dream of becoming an Olympic official. The good news is Serpentine Running Club can help you on the first step.

As an athletics club, Serpentine RC requires track & field officials in our ranks in order to stage athletics events and other running races. We currently have a need to recruit more members as officials, as well as upgrading existing officials to higher levels. The Club will pay for your officiating course fees – you just need to be willing to help in future events.

Not an official yet but want to become one?

Please feel free to have a look at the England Athletics Officials page to find out more details. To be a Level 1 official, after completing an online health & safety course, you can then choose one of the disciplines (the club will pay for both parts of the course):

For the full list of qualifications please follow this link.

Interested? Please register your interest via this link, or email me for any questions.

Already an official?

If you are currently a Level 1 or Level 2 official and would like to be an upgrade to Levels 2 or 3, please also register your interest via this link. The Club is happy to help you become a higher level official so we have the capability to stage more events in athletics meets.

Already an official but don’t want an upgrade for now? No worries, please email me anyway as we’d like to have a more accurate list of Serpentine officials, so we know who to contact when we stage events.

Not sure but want to try it out?

If you are interested but not sure about committing to a course just yet, why not get some practical, hands-on experience at some of the upcoming club competitions? Maybe you’ll enjoy it, and we are happy to have volunteers helping out anyway. These events include:

  • Middlesex Young Athletes League, Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead on Saturday 26th  June from 12.30pm until about 5.00pm.
  • Rosenheim Inter-Club, Battersea Park Track, on Wednesday 30th June from 6.30pm and 9.00pm - this is our Serpentine home match.

If you’re interested, please contact Malcolm.

Happy running / officiating
