Tour de Serpiesphere – Stage 4 (16k) Results and Stage 5 (2 miles) Entry

Hello Serpies,

The hard work is done and the finish line of the Tour de Serpiesphere is almost in sight. Time to take a breath (and put some warm clothes on if you're in the UK) and get ready to finish strong.

What happened on Stage 4

This was the longest stage but luckily for those based in London spring made a brief appearance which made for great running weather. We had 69 runners completing the stage which leaves us with 64 Serpies still in the running to finish the Tour de Serpiesphere, a truly amazing turnout. Despite running 10 miles, a few of us still found time to take some great photos (or maybe the longer distance was a good excuse to head out a bit further than usual). This week's entry comes from Charles Pridgeon who seems to be thinking about a career as an international cyclist (taken along River Rhône in Aigle, Switzerland).

Stage 4 Winners

Congratulations to the winners of Stage 4:

  • Kit Grierson made it 3 wins out of 4, taking the crown with 55:00;
  • Mariah McConnaughey led all women, coming in a time of 1:07:01, no wonder if you can run with views like this in the State of Washington, NW USA:

Also well done to Kevin Murray and Andrew Roberts who both finished in the top 10 with age-graded times of over 85%.

There's another spot prize up for grabs, this time a copy of Jerry Lockspeiser's and Andrew Roberts'  new book Running Stories. As with the prize for Stage 2, we'll draw the winner at an in-person meeting soon, so watch this space.

The GC and the jerseys

With only 2 miles to go, the picture at the top of the standings has become quite clear. Both Mariah (with a lead of almost 6min over Rhea Colvin) and Kit (about 4min ahead of Christopher Tsantoulas) look poised to take the Virtual Yellow Jerseys for fastest female/male runners, but there's still all to play for when it comes to who can beat his/her actual marathon PB by the largest margin. The full standings can be found here:

Also if we don't have you're marathon PB in our database or if you've since improved it (congrats Christopher on a cracking run round Dorney Lake!) please let Malcolm know.

Stage 5 – 2 miles (from now until 25th Apr)

After almost 3 months, our Tour is almost over and the finish line is now in sight.  Stage 5 is a 2-mile (3.2km) race – and we finish on what would have been the 2021 London Marathon date.  So, whether in your imagination you’re doing the final stretch around the streets of Paris and along the Champs-Elysees, or maybe using the original Tour de France finish at the Parc des Princes, or passing Blackfriars on the London Marathon route before heading towards Buckingham Palace, you’ve got a final chance to attack your marathon best time.   Race cut off is on Sunday 25th April at 22:00 (UK time).  In a similar way as the previous stages:

Email Hans if you have any queries.

Good luck on Stage 5!

The Tour de Serpiesphere Team (Frank, Hans & Malcolm)
