Serpiesphere Virtual 5K - Spring Series Race 2 Results and Race 3 (Valentine’s Special) Instructions

It was a fantastic second race of the series with 67 runners taking part – even more than Race 1.

Race 2 Virtual Podium

This time we had 3 decisive winners who held onto their podium places from quite early on in the race.

Congratulations to these 3 runners:

1st Place: Lindsey Chiswick grabs the top spot in just her second Serpiesphere appearance, reducing her previous time by almost a minute and a half, with a handicapped time of 58:32 (net time of 25:17).

2nd Place: Sam Jones, one of the first juniors to win a podium place, comes second with an impressive handicapped time of 58:50 (net time of 24:55).

3rd Place: Charlie Frith remains on the podium for the second time in 2021 with a handicapped time of 59:16 (net time of 30:46).

Also, the fastest performers of Race 1 are:

Fastest Male: Andy Reeves holds onto the top spot for the second time this year, with a time of 18:02 (handicapped at 60:32).

Fastest Female: Mariah McConnaughey takes this one with a speedy 20:03 (handicapped at 61:03).

Best age-graded performance: Andrew Roberts comes out on top with an incredible age rating of 87%.

I’d also like to make a special mention of Tom Donovan, our scratch runner who made his Serpiesphere debut this week.

Photo competition

Thank you to those of you who shared photos of your running locations over the fortnight. Unsurprisingly, the weather played a key role in your photos these past 2 weeks.

The winner of the photo competition this time is Anne Bennett, with a spectacular snowy scene in Hyde Park. The shot was taken close to the start of the Handicap route, and is a stunning reminder that soon we will be able to race together in person again.

Head to the Serpie Facebook page to see more beautiful images of snowy scenes and winter sunrises.

Race 3 – Valentine’s Special

To mark the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the third race of this series is an A-race. Not only will you score double points for entering or winning this race, but you’ll also have the chance to win one of our exciting prizes. We will be awarding a prize to the runner with the best handicapped time in Race 3. Another prize will be awarded to a lucky randomly selected participant chosen in a draw.

The Valentine’s Special Race is open now and will run until 10pm on Sunday 14th February

We will also be celebrating the end of the Valentine’s Special A-Race with a Zoom social on Wednesday 17thFebruary at 8pm. Look out for an email from the Serpie Social Committee with more details on this exciting event.

Follow the instructions below to enter:

1. Run 5K, anytime before the closing date. You should run alone, on any route you choose, wherever you are in the world! Just don't choose a route with a significant net downhill.

2. Enter your time before 10pm on Sunday 14th February here. Click "self-add result" and then choose "1 February 2021" (which includes all performances from 1st to 14th February).

3. Take a photo or screenshot that shows your time and distance. This can be a screenshot of your Strava / Garmin result page, or a picture of your watch. As long as the distance is a minimum of 5.00km (or 3.11 miles) and it shows a finish time, it will be accepted.

4. Submit the photo or screenshot here -  also before 10pm on 14th February (this link can also be found in the same page as the “self-add result” page). Click “Add Files” and find the file you want to add. You do not need a Dropbox account. This will just ask for your name (so we can correlate your performance with the time submitted) and email address (so you’ll get a confirmation of upload).

5. If you can, also upload a photo of somewhere along your running route. As we're geographically separated at the moment, this is a nice way to keep in touch with where other people are running. There will be special mentions and possibly even prizes for the most artistic photos.

6. Shortly after the race closing time, the Serpie computer system will magically calculate your handicapped time and award your points. You'll score at least 6 points for entering the Valentine’s Special A-Race (or at least 2 points if you're a scratch runner), plus extra points depending on your finishing position.

7. You’re welcome to run 5K more than once during the 2-week race period, and then choose your best time to enter. If you’ve already registered a time and then manage to improve on it, just click “edit” after selecting the race date, and change it your new improved time.

More information

Please email Sophie if you have any questions or need help entering your time.

Don't forget to follow social distancing guidelines during your races, and don't run if you have any symptoms of Covid 19.

Good luck everyone!
