Club Runs are back! Sign up NOW!

After a 3-month hiatus, London’s best running club is back running our beautiful streets and parks together!  From Saturday 4th July, Serpentine RC will restart group club runs, with runs organised every Saturday morning and Wednesday night. With the Covid-19 pandemic still ongoing, we are having to organise the runs differently, so everyone can participate safely. 

Here is how it will work:

  • Sign up: You have to sign up in advance – no sign-up, no run. Please fill in these forms:
  • Groups: You will then be placed into different run-groups of no more than six people. The grouping is based on pace and route. In the sign-up form you can also tell us your preferred run buddies and start time (within the ranges of start times as outlined below). Please also let us know if you could be a 'run group leader', who will make sure newcomers follow the routes and the pace is roughly what is advertised.
  • Start: The runs will start from the Hyde Park Bandstand (see map here – find “the Bandstand” near the Rose Garden at the Hyde Park Corner side): https://www.royalparks.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/41639/hydepark_english_map.pdf). As the Seymour Centre is not open at the moment, we have chosen a convenient starting point where toilet facilities are available. (Note: The Bandstand is our current preferred alternative location. We will review how the new start location works after a few runs.)

Hyde Park Bandstand

  • Routes: You have a choice of two routes – 2 parks and 3 parks. Both routes start at the Bandstand, then run northwards on the Broad Walk (i.e. our normal finishing straight), through Speaker’s Corner and then on to the usual route. 2-parks will stay within Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, whilst 3-parks will also go to Green Park and St James’s Park. Both routes finish at the Hyde Park Bandstand. (Click hyperlinks for route descriptions)
  • Pace: Pace groups currently on offer are 7:00/mile, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00 (Saturdays only) and slower than 8:30 (Wednesday) or slower than 9:00 (Saturday).
  • Start time: Each group will have a designated start time (likely to be in 5 or 10 min intervals) – you will be informed by email prior to the run. Please be on time when your group goes, as there is no guarantee of re-assigning of groups if you’re late:
    • Saturday morning: Your start time will be between 9am and 9:30am;
    • Wednesday night: Between 6:30pm to 7:15pm.
  • Toilets: Available at the Rose Garden just opposite to the Bandstand (open until 7pm) and the Serpentine Café (open in the morning).
  • Bags: There will be no bag drop – please come ready to run. (Note: This doesn’t mean we will never have a bag drop. We will review how the first few runs go and assess if it is possible to do so in future.)
  • Cycle racks: Available outside of the Serpentine Café and at Speaker’s Corner.
  • Most importantly: Please respect social distancing rules and stay a safe distance (2m) away from members of the public not in your household or run group at all times. Please do not attend if you or anyone you've come into contact recently have symptoms of Covid-19.

It is important that we adhere to England Athletics’ Guidance (see here) on these club runs. These are official club activities as outlined in our Covid-19 risk assessment, therefore please be aware of and abide by the related restrictions - we all have a part to play in making this safe and enjoyable.
