Membership Extension - A Message to all Club Members
Hello Serpies
These are strange days indeed, but we are getting through as best we can and I want to take a moment to acknowledge the amazing achievements from members across the club, that are keeping us going. We may not be fully 'business as usual', however these efforts are keeping us up and running and doing the sport we love to do.
If you haven’t done the Serpiesphere Virtual 5k yet, no worries, there’s another coming right up. We have made this a truly international event - possibly the first/only one of its kind? The whole club has pulled together to ensure that we still have training, coaching, racing, biking and socialising going on, pretty much every day. What a club! Thanks to all the coaches, trainers, volunteers, runners, racers and (dryland) swimmers for keeping Serpies going.
Although this is amazing, we realise that we are not able to offer the kinds of activities that all you lovely people signed up for when you handed us your membership fee. We can’t have club runs, or our normal club handicap. We can’t do our usual speed, spin and swim sessions or enjoy Sid’s legendary Last Wednesday of the Month in the sweaty Seymour Club Room. And all races have been cancelled.
Therefore, for everyone who was a Serpentine club member on 16th March 2020 (the day the Government announced cancellation of mass gatherings), the Committee has decided, unanimously, to extend your existing 12-month membership term by an additional 3 months. We will shortly start to update your membership details on Serpiebase, so please be patient as we work to complete this. We are also mindful that this has financial implications for the Club and will evaluate our position again in June, in light of Government guidelines and club member feedback. We will communicate more about this in due course, but I hope to have your support that this is a reasonable response to the unprecedented situation we face as a club.

Update 7 May: I've competed the changes to everyone's membership review dates. Please note that new membership cards will not be issued because of the significant cost the club would incur in doing this for all 1421 members. Malcolm French - membership@serpentine.org.uk
