Important Update for all Serpentine Members - 16 March 2020: COVID-19

In view of Government guidance released on Monday 16th March and following extended discussion, the club is taking further steps to address the COVID-19 crisis.

With immediate effect, all club runs, races, events and training sessions are suspended until further notice. This includes the Hyde Park runs (Wednesday / Saturday), Richmond Park (Sunday), all track, spin and swim sessions, the club handicap race and Last-Friday-of-the-Month 5k race. We are also sorry to confirm that the Mad Hatters Duathlon race, due to have been hosted by Serpentine on 19th April, will now be postponed (further information to follow).

The kit room will remain closed until further notice. Any kit enquires should be emailed to club-kit@serpentine.org.uk who may be able to arrange an appointment for collection of kit.

We will continue to monitor the situation and any relevant Government advice on a daily basis, and will keep you informed about further developments including when we are able to re-start our regular club sessions again. Our decision at this time is in line with information and advice received from British Triathlon Federation and England Athletics .

For your awareness, here is a summary of the new Government guidance as at 16 March:

  • Everyone should reduce social contact by avoiding gatherings (big or small) and crowded places, such as pubs, clubs and theatres
  • Everyone should work from home if they can and avoid non-essential travel
  • Anyone experiencing symptoms of fever (37.8C / 100 F) and / or a new and persistent cough must stay home and self-isolate for 7-days from the onset of symptoms
  • If one person in any household has a persistent cough or fever, everyone living there must stay at home for 14 days.

You can find updated information about the virus, and what to do if you develop symptoms via the NHS website. Further information about social distancing and stay-at-home guidance is available on the GOV.UK website

This is a challenging time for us all but we are determined to find and promote positive messages, so look out for updates from committee members and coaches - no club sessions does not mean no sporting activity or Serpie support. Updates and where possible coaching ideas will appear on the website, via email and social media channels, we plan to get creative!

In the meantime, should you have any concerns or indeed suggestions about how we can keep the Serpie spirit alive and running during this temporary break, please contact your committee members:

Sid Wills (member-liaison@serpentine.org.uk) for club runs
Hans Ho (participation@serpentine.org.uk) for participation
Isaac Leigh (running@serpentine.org.uk) for coached running sessions
Debbie Clarke (triathlon@serpentine.org.uk) for triathlon, swimming and spin sessions
Sarah Maisey ( social@serpentine.org.uk ) for social
