Summer League 1st fixture - Sunday 2nd June, Dulwich Park

Sunshine, running, cake, what better way to start your Sunday? The Summer League is back for 2019!

The 2019 Summer League kicks off on Sunday 2nd June at 09:30 in Dulwich Park, hosted by Dulwich Park Runners. It’s a 5 mile course taking in both the park and surrounding roads. Toilet facilities are available in the park (the closest are in Dulwich Clock Cafe), but there is nowhere official to change so you may want to come ready to race. The Start/Finish area is near the childrens playground close to the Cafe - it can be quite difficult to find so leave yourself plenty of time, and look out for the club flags!

If you have never been to a Summer League race before, you might be wondering what it’s all about.

The Summer League is an inter-club competition of five races between June and August at various venues around London. It is suitable for all speeds and ages, very friendly and with excellent post-race cake.

The races on the day include:

  • A 5 mile or 10km 'main' race for adults.
  • A shorter 'tenderfoot' (1.5-2km) race for children and runners returning from injury.
  • A fun run for under 6 year olds.
  • Finally, a series of light hearted 300-400m relays, suitable for all ages and abilities. Runners need to run in one of the other races to be eligible to take part in the relays.

There is no need to enter in advance - just turn up on the day in your Serpie vest/shirt, the entry fee is paid by the club.

All levels, new and regular runners welcome. Non-Serpentine guest runners are welcome but will need to pay £2 entry on the day to the Serpie Summer League team. The events are suitable for the whole family, as children can take part in the tenderfoot race and the relays.

A post-race picnic of sandwiches and cakes is provided by the host club. There is some great inter-club competition, and individual trophies (in age categories) are also awarded following the season based on your best three performances in the five races.
