Weekly Serpie round-up

Congratulations to the Serpies who took part in the ERRA National Road Relays on Saturday 14 April in Sutton Park (Birmingham). We recorded some of our best ever results. Read on for the week's news.

ERRA National Road Relays

In the women’s event (6 per team, with two long legs and four short legs), our team came 16th. Marta Bagnati ran our fastest ever long leg (31:36) and Helen Gray ran our fastest ever short leg (17:53) (also the 8th fastest on the day).

In the men’s event (12 per team, alternating between a short and long leg), our A team came 9th, our best ever result, in a total time of 4:27:07, which again was our best ever time. Chris Wright ran our fastest ever long leg (26:33) and Tony Payne ran our fastest ever short leg (15:35) (also the 7th fastest on the day).

Our B team also recorded a top 40 place for the first time, finishing in 37th position. Whilst all our runners did well, particularly worth noting that Andy Reeves, Jon Moscrop and Phil Whitehouse all took part in what is always a highly competitive event less than a week after running a marathon (Manchester for Andy and Phil, Rotterdam for Jon).

Many thanks to all those who took part, but particularly to team captains Laura Carmichael, Tash Sheel, Dani de Palol and Phil Whitehouse. (Report: Tom Poynton with input from Ian Hodge and team captains; photo: Ahlem Ben Gueblia)

Brighton Marathon

Congratulations to Sam Ludlow Taylor who ran a new PB of 3:02:44 at the Brighton Marathon (10th woman), a mere 9 months after giving birth. (At the time of writing, full results weren't available, hence the brevity of the 'report'.)

Boston Marathon

Clare Darley receiving her MdS medalWell done to all Serpies who competed at the 102th Boston Marathon in wet, windy and cold conditions (watch the BBC coverage if you want proof of just how tough the conditions were). The red and yellow contingent were led home by David Mohring, who finished in 2:48:58, followed by Sarah Dudgeon in 3:00:28 (just 24 seconds off her PB!) and Dean Morley in 3:00:53.

Marathon des Sables

Congratulations to Clare Darley and Michael Salisbury who both successfully completed the 33rd Marathon Des Sables, a gruelling 6-day, 251 km ultramarathon in the Sahara Desert. Watch this space for Clare's full report! (Photo: Clare Darley)

Looking ahead

If you missed it, David Chalfen wrote a great preview of our men's team's medal prospects at the VLM this weekend. A special mention goes to John Hudspith who will be making it 30 London Marathons in a row on Sunday, having only missed the first 8 races. Best of luck to all you Serpies racing, may the wind be behind you!

Get involved

Do you enjoy reading the weekly round-up? If so, please help me by sending me your mini race reports and results (a few lines is all it takes) so we can continue producing it regularly. Drop me an email by Tuesday 9am with a few words about the event and, if you have them, photos (please ask for permission if someone else took the pictures).

If your result is missing from the club website, you can add it yourself or, if the race isn't listed in the dropdown menu, contact the Results Elves at results@serpentine.org.uk. Even better, simply add your name to the Race & Event Planner in advance and name SERPENTINE as your club when you enter races to ensure your results are added to your profile.

With thanks to everyone who contributed to this week's round-up!
