Team relays: GBR, WCR and RNR

Over many years the club has entered teams for three relay events, on top of the southern and national road relays (entries to the spring 12/6 road relays are now open).  These are: Green Belt Relay, Welsh Castles Relay and Round Norfolk Relay.

The Green Belt Relay will take place on 19 and 20 May this year – we have entered four teams and sign-ups will open later this month, on a “first come first served” basis.  This is a popular event open to a wide range of abilities and a great way to get to know other club members as well as running through some lovely countryside.  Please do save the date if you are interested in taking part – there are a few other events on that weekend. To get you in the mood, read James Edgar's Serpentimes article about his Green Belt Adventures.

The Welsh Castles Relay will take place on 9 and 10 June this year – we have applied for an open team and a women’s team and we will know in early March if these have been successful.  If we are then we will open up entries shortly after, to first claim club members only, with the intention of entering competitive teams and hopefully win back the men’s and women’s titles we have already won several times.  We can only do this though if we have enough people to help with the organising – please get in touch with me if you are interested in doing this.

The Round Norfolk Relay will also take place on 15 and 16 September this year.  Although we have entered a team on several occasions, last year we failed to get enough interest to field a team (of 17 runners including several drivers). Because of this, and also the clash with the popular trip to the Isle of Wight fell running competition that weekend, I do not intend to enter a team this year.  However, if you would like to organise a team and are confident that you can get enough interest within the club, please do get in touch.

More information about each of these events is on the club website at https://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/racing_run.html.
