London cross country champs: Race day info

Race day info for all those who have pre-entered the London cross country champs on Saturday 18th November and for those who want to come and support the club. Plus an urgent plea for marshals.

Urgent - Marshals needed

Malcolm French is still very short of marshals. Given how much time Malcolm volunteers to ensure we all get to race, whether in club champs or external races, it would be appreciated if you are free next Saturday and can help him, please can you step forward.

All the details are here

Race Day details for runners

Reminder - all races take place on Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath on Saturday, 18th November. Entries have CLOSED and there is no race number swapping. For those of you who have pre-entered, the race details are:

  • 6km for women, starting at 1.15pm
  • 10km for men, starting at 2.00pm

Both races will start promptly and before other races on the programme have finished. Chip timing will be used and you must make sure you return your chip, even if you don't finish the race or the club will be fined £8 per missing chip.

We will meet by the northern side of the athletics track and please get there at least 30 minutes before your start time to collect your race number and chip from Ian and Sally Hodge. You must run in a Serpentine Running Club top.

Given the recent rain, the Heath is likely to be muddy and churned up by the time the Seniors race. I would recommend cross country spikes with 9 - 12mms spikes.

Female and male changing, showers, etc will be available at the Lido (not at the track), although I would advise arriving changed ready to race.

Can't race?

If you can't race because of injury or illness, we understand, but you must let me know BEFORE the race. Just not showing up is letting down your team mates, captains and the club which has paid a lot of money in race fees.

Travel to the race

I would advise you to use public transport. "Residents Only" parking restrictions apply in all surrounding streets until 1.30pm. The nearest tubes are Kentish Town and Belsize Park tube stations which are 15 mins walk. Gospel Oak & Hampstead Heath Overground stations are the nearest and approx 5 - 7 minutes walk away, please note that the Gospel Oak to Barking line is closed.

Please check for engineering works and journey options. Bus route 214 runs from Kings Cross, via Kentish Town (Northern Line) to Highgate Road every 10 minutes. Ask to get off at the Parliament Hill Fields stop. The bus journey from Kings Cross takes about 45 minutes. Please leave plenty time for your journey.

After pub - The Roebuck (probably)

After the men's race has finished, we normally head to a pub. Although not definite, The Roebuck, 15 Pond Street Hampstead, NW3 2PN (opposite the Royal Free hospital) has been the recent venue of choice. Details will be confirmed on the day.

Any questions, please email me directly.

Thanks very much
