Sunday League - 13 November at Grovelands Park

The second cross country race in this season's Sunday League will take place on Sunday, 13 November in Grovelands Park, starting at 10.30am, hosted by Serpentine Running Club

About the Sunday League

The Sunday League offers the chance for some good old-fashioned cross country running in the countryside. The League is friendly whilst still competitive and a great way to spend a Sunday morning. In Sunday League races, men and women run together over the same distance. The races attract a wide age and ability range and are ideal as a first experience of cross country running for those who are new to it. Plus many of the races are in attractive locations offering the possibility of a country pub lunch afterwards - what more could anyone want?

All entries are taken on the day. However, if you intend to run, it would be helpful if you could add your name to the Serpie planner so we have an idea of how many people are planning to be there. Also, please wear a Serpie top.

The race

Location: Grovelands Park, Broad Walk, Southgate, London N21 3DA

The start and finish will be close to the lake.

There are no changing or showering facilities. Please come ready to run. Public toilets are available adjoining the lakeside cafe in the centre of the park. Bring your own loo paper as the Council rarely supply any! The cafe should be open for post-race refreshments. Kit can be left, unsupervised, close to the finish.

This will be a winding, undulating, 3-lap course of c.8000m all on open grassland. It will take a spike. Good spectator opportunities.

As it's Remembrance Sunday we will be observing a period of silence immediately prior to the start of the race.

Helpers needed

Malcolm French is the Race Director and he needs your help to stage the race.

He still needs marshalls and finish area stewards so that Serpentine can put the race on. No experience is necessary. If you're planning to run the Met League the day before and don't want to race twice in the weekend, can you help at Grovelands Park on Sunday?

If you can offer to help, please contact Malcolm French at MalcolmFrench1962@yahoo.com

Travel

Public transport: Southgate (Piccadilly Line) is the closest tube station. This is about 10 minutes walk from Grovelands Park. Winchmore Hill (National Rail) is within walking distance.

Parking: Street parking only. There is no car park in the park itself. There are several entrances to the park, including those in The Bourne, Broad Walk, Church Hill, Park View and Queen Elizabeth’s Drive.
