September highlights

A few of the events to look out for in September

Thursday 1 September is the date of the last Assembly League race of 2016 which will be held at Beckenham, with prizes given out after the races in the excellent club house. On Saturday 3 September it's the club handicap – if you can't run, why not come along and share the experience of an early morning in Hyde Park by being a marshal/timekeeper/writerdowner or cheerer – please email handicapper@serpentine.org.uk if you can help. On the same day (at 8am) is the Serpentine biathlon and it is possible to double up and do both! If you need more information on the biathlon, contact triathlon@serpentine.org.uk.

The club championship 10k is on Sunday 4 September, as part of the Middlesex & Open 10k in Victoria Park. Hosted by VPH&THAC, the race is open to all and incorporates the Middlesex County 10k Championship. Help is needed with organisation of the water stations on the course and at the finish, plus people to record the runners numbers at the finish - if you can help, please contact MalcolmFrench1962@yahoo.com. Also on Sunday is the Splash & Dash aquathlon, which is a London Triathlon League event. The Serpie men's team is still in with a chance of the league title but need to win one of the remaining 2 events, so it would be great to see lots of Serpies, (men in particular!) in Stoke Newington for this event.

If you want to sign up for the Serpentine weekend trip to the Isle of Wight fell races (on 24 & 25 September), the last date you can join in is Monday 5 September. The last committee meeting before the AGM will be in the club room at the Seymour Centre on Tuesday 6 September. Any members who would like an item to be added to the evening’s agenda can contact the appropriate Committee member before the meeting. In case any members have a resolution they want to submit to be discussed at this year's AGM, they need to submit it in writing to the Honorary Secretary by Wednesday 7 September at the latest. For Serpies trying to get that last event logged for the 2016 virtual icosathlon, the last Watford Open Graded track & field meeting of the year is on Wednesday 7 September.

On Saturday 10 September, it's the last of the 2016 triathlon club championships: the Vitruvian middle distance triathlon, while on the same day there will be several Serpies running and imbibing at the Marathon du Medoc and a few running the Sri Chinmoy 10k in Battersea Park. The next Serpentine organised Velopark duathlon is on Sunday 11 September. Volunteers are needed from approx 8am to 11am to organise the race - all volunteers receive a discounted entry to any Velopark Duathlon. If you are able to help, please let Race Director Stella Kamba know at stella.kamba@gmail.com. Also on Sunday are the Great North Run, as well as the Weymouth middle distance triathlon.

Wednesday 14 September is the final date to submit nominations to be Honorary Officers or members of the club's Committee in writing to the Honorary Secretary.

The Round Norfolk Relay is over the weekend of Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September. There may well still be a couple of places on the team (last minute drop outs always being a possibility), so if you are interested, you can read more here or contact the Serpie team organisers at roundnorfolk@serpentine.org.uk. On Sunday 18 September are Ironman Wales, the London duathlon classic and the Richmond running festival.

New club members have the opportunity to meet other club members and find out about what Serpentine offers at the new members' evening at the Seymour Centre on Wednesday 21 September.

The weekend of 24 & 25 September will be a very busy one, with a sizeable group of Serpies heading to the Isle of Wight for the annual fell racing weekend. Also on Saturday is Swim Serpentine, while on Sunday, the SEAA Road Relays are at new venue, Bedford Autodrome. On the same Sunday are the Berlin marathon, the Bristol half marathon and Ealing half marathon.

The Victory Services club is the venue for the 2016 club AGM, which will start at 8pm on Wednesday 28 September. The club runs will start early and the bag room will be closed early to enable everyone to get to the AGM in good time. We hope that plenty of you will come along to have your say in the future of our club. The September Brooks Last Friday of the Month 5k will be on Friday 30 September.

Looking forward to early October, the club handicap is on Saturday 1 October. On Sunday 2 October are the London Fields aquathlon plus numerous marathons and half marathons including the Bournemouth half marathon, Cardiff half marathon, Sussex marathon and Turin marathon.

There's more information about lots of these events on the Serpie events planner.
