Round Norfolk Relay - sign up now

This year's Round Norfolk Relay will be on 16th and 17th September 2017 - please contact roundnorfolk@serpentine.org.uk if you are interested in taking part.

The Round Norfolk Relay follows the Norfolk county boundary for a distance of 196 miles, taking in coastal paths, sandy and pebbled beaches, country lanes, picturesque villages, wide open spaces and dark forest. It's the third of the long distance relays that the club enters regularly, but unlike the Green Belt and Welsh Castles Relays which are run as 22 or 20 individual races over two days, the Round Norfolk Relay is run continuously with teams of 17 runners passing the baton from one runner to the next at each stage. The race features a staggered start, much like our club handicap, with the intention that every team ultimately finishes at roughly the same time on the Sunday morning.

Stages vary between 5.5 and 19.7 miles, some on-road, some multi-terrain. We'll start on Saturday morning at Kings Lynn and keep running until we're back probably a bit over 24 hours later. The club has entered an open team, which means that anyone will be able to take part. In past years we've had quite a mix of abilities - enthusiasm is more important than your last 10k/HM time.

For further details, check out the trip report from the 2015 race or the Round Norfolk Relay website.

We'll probably be taking 4 vehicles (probably three 7/8 seat MPVs and a car) and we'll need at least two drivers per vehicle, so anyone who can drive a hired MPV etc would be particularly welcome.

Last year most of the group left London on Friday afternoon/evening, returning on Sunday, with 2 nights' accommodation in Thetford. We may be able to organise things to allow people to join or leave on Saturday, although you would miss out on a large part of the atmosphere of the race.

Many teams also bring along one or more non-runners, to help with the driving, time-keeping and cycling (runners must be accompanied by a cyclist during the day and a car during the night on the road stages), so if anyone wants to come and help (without running) please get in touch.

If you're interested, please contact David Martin, who will be organising our team this year - he can be reached at roundnorfolk@serpentine.org.uk. David will be at the 3 parks club run this Saturday (12th) August and will probably also be at the club run and pub next Wednesday (16th) August if anyone would like to discuss in person before committing. Don't worry about predicted times, comments etc - we'll be in touch re all the other stuff.
