25th Anniversary of the Last Friday of the Month 5k

Today's 25th anniversary marked another milestone in the history of one of the longest-running 5k races in the country. The club would like to express its gratitude and congratulations to Race Director Malcolm French for his dedication and hard work over the last 10 years. Thank you Malcolm!

Glorious sunshine greeted the 274 runners, helpers and supporters in Hyde Park today, on what was a picture-perfect autumn day. Numerous people who have been closely involved in the race and the club for many years made a special appearance, including John Walker, who was Race Director for the first 15 years of the race's existence and flew in especially from Spain.

Before the start, Jamie Giles presented Malcolm with a beautiful engraved stop watch on behalf of the committee and club at large, while Phil Dee showed himself to be a master baker with his home-made anniversary cake. And then they were off!

The women's race was won by Ruby Woolfe (Thames H & H) in 18:09, with Rachel Thomas (VPHTHAC) finishing 2nd lady in 18:34 and Nicola Archer (unattached) completing the podium in 18:56.

Hugh Torry (Serpentine) took the men's crown in 16:16, with Sage Pearce-Higgins (Thames Valley H) winning silver in 16:25 and Rick Weston (Serpentine) coming 3rd in 16:29.

Congratulations all! Full results can be found on the club website. Photos from today's event will be uploaded and the link published on the club website in the next few days.

A big thank you also to all the volunteers today and over the last 25 years who have helped in the smooth running of the race! It couldn't happen without you.

We look forward to seeing you again on 24th November for the next edition of the race. Here's to the next 25 years!Malcolm's gift
