Serpentine Juniors team compete in Middlesex Young Athletes League

Nine young athletes represented Serpentine in the first ever Middlesex Young Athletes League event on Saturday which saw nine London Teams compete, with ourselves and Ealing Eagles as guests. We were delighted to have good support from juniors, parents and coaches.

Despite being non-scoring, Serpentine junior athletes gave some excellent performances, with experienced competitors Shiloh Wright-Taipow running the fastest time over 200m for U15 girls (she is still 12!) and Jada Emoike fastest over 200m for U17 women! Bineta, Shiloh, Kristina and Jada narrowly missed victory by less than a second in the U17 relay to Highgate, although Jada (the only U17 on the team) ran a fantastic sprint finish to catch up a considerable distance in the final leg; it was an exciting race to watch! Jodie Russell has only recently joined Serpentine as she was 11 in the last month, however showed great potential in 100m and long jump.

None of the four boys had ever competed in similar events, and made good debut performances in 100 and 200m. Barnaby Russell (U13) did a 4.04m Long Jump which was the third best of the day, and we hope to provide more opportunities for field event practice. The day ended with a strong 4 x 100m relay with Baqer, Ryoma, Barnaby and Alex in the U15 boys’ race.

Thanks to coaches Emile, Megan, Tim, and Matt; and parents Mr Haughton-Brown, Mr Abamecha, Mrs Okabe, Mrs Wright-Taipow and Mrs Emoike who came to support the event. Peter Clarke will be managing the team at our next event in Finsbury Park on May 20th and we hope to have even more athletes representing Serpentine Juniors!
