Round Norfolk Relay 16th-17th September 2017 - drivers wanted

This year's Round Norfolk Relay will be on 16th-17th September 2017. Serpentine has entered one team (17 runners) and the sign up for drivers and anyone wanting to help with the organisation is now open.

The Round Norfolk Relay follows the Norfolk county boundary for a distance of 198 miles, taking in coastal paths, sandy and pebbled beaches, country lanes, picturesque villages, wide open spaces and dark forest. It's the third of the long distance relays that the club enters regularly, with the added fun (and complication) of being run as a continuous event over approx 24 hours with a baton (rather than a series of stage races with fixed start times). If you enjoyed the Green Belt or Welsh Castle Relays or wanted to take part but missed out, then get your (next) relay fix in Norfolk this September. The stages vary between 5.5 and 19.7 miles, with some on-road and others multi-terrain.

We'll probably be taking two 7-seat MPVs and two cars and it will make things much easier if we can get two drivers per vehicle. RNR regulars will know that getting everyone round the course and accompanying the runners on the night time stages is quite a challenge, but also adds to the fun of the weekend.

We'll be sending a separate email for the general sign up in a few weeks if you just want to run*, but would like to recruit people now who are happy to drive or who want to help with organisation (in advance or on the day), or both, so that we can start planning and putting the team together. We usually have quite a mix of abilities, from those running sub-6:00 miles for their legs to those at 9:30-10:00 miles.

*We'll need people to help with timekeeping, navigating, cycling with runners and various other tasks over the weekend too

Most of the team will leave London on Friday afternoon and come back on Sunday, but we usually have a few people (generally non-drivers) who arrive or leave on Saturday.

David Martin will be organising the team again this year. If you would like to take part and either drive or help organise, or just want further information, please contact him at roundnorfolk@serpentine.org.uk

For further details, please take a look at the trip report from the 2015 race or the Round Norfolk Relay website or ask David.
