Southern Cross Country Champs: race day details for runners and supporters

Race day information for everyone who has pre-entered the Southern cross country championships at Parliament Hill on Saturday 25th January, and for anyone who wants to come and support.

Race Day details for runners

All the races take place at Parliament Hill on Saturday 25th January. Entries have CLOSED and there is no race-number swapping. For those of you who have pre-entered, the relevant race details are:

  • Under 13 boys 3km, 11.35am
  • Under 17 men 6km, 12.10pm
  • Under 20 men 8km, 1.30pm
  • Senior Women 8km, 2.05pm
  • Senior Men 15km, 2.50pm

Please note that any Senior Men who have not started their 3rd lap by 60mins are unlikely to complete the course within the 90min cut off time. Any runners who choose to continue may not have their time recorded.

All races will start promptly and before other races on the full programme have finished. Chip timing will be used and you must make sure you return your chip, even if you don't finish the race, or the club will be fined.

Meet at the north side of the athletics track - I will be there with a Serpie banner from 12.30pm and will have everyone's race numbers and chip (except Junior athletes, please see seperate email).

Female and male changing and showers will be available at the Lido (not at the track), but will be very busy so I would advise arriving changed and ready to race. Club colours must be worn.

It's a bit too soon to make a call on spike length, but as the course will have been under heavy use all day spikes are likely to be more effective than trail shoes.

Can't race?

We understand if you can't race because of injury or illness, but please let me know BEFORE the race. Just not showing up is letting down your team mates, captains and the club which has paid a lot of money in entry fees.

Travel to the race

You are advised to use public transport as "Residents Only" parking restrictions apply in all surrounding streets. The nearest tube stations are Kentish Town and Belsize Park (15mins walk away), or Gospel Oak and Hampstead Heath Overground stations (7mins walk away).

Please check www.tfl.gov.uk for engineering works and bus options.

Post race pub

After the men's race has finished we will head to the pub for a well deserved drink. An area has been reserved at The Garden Gate, 14 South End Road, Hampstead, NW3 2QE.

Race Day details for supporters

If you would like to come and cheer on the red and yellow vests amidst a sea of other clubs your support is always welcome, and you can join us in the pub afterwards.

To secure a front row spot, Malcolm French is looking for marshals so if you think you could volunteer some time to help the day go smoothly please email him for additional information. Time slots available are 9.50am-4.30pm, 9.50am-1.30pm or 12.30pm-4.30pm.

If anyone has any questions about the day, please email me directly.

Thanks,

Daisy Gladstone
