2016 London Triathlon League - Races now open for entries

The London League is almost upon us once again. Each year the British Triathlon Federation picks a handful of races to serve as the premier racing league for triathletes in and around London.

This year sees 13 races (12 scoring) to race in. Almost all of these races will require pre registration and often they close up to a week before race day. Some sell out very quickly!

Round 1 - 28 March - Thames Turbo Sprint Triathlon (426m pool swim, 21.5km bike, 5km run)
Hampton Outdoor Pool. Hampton, Middlesex. TW12 2ST.
A warm swim in the Hampton pool, followed by a non closed road course, then a run around the park. Entries close 23rd March.

Round 2 - 17 April - Kingfisher Aquathon (400m pool swim, 9km offroad run)
Morden Park Pool. SM4 5HE.
An indoor swim, then a quick transition outside with 4 laps of a pleasant trail run. Afterwards there's plenty of great baked goods to get stuck into! Entries close 14th of April at noon.

Round 3 - 8 May - Dragon Slayer Duathlon (3 mile run, 15 mile bike, 2 mile run) Serpentine Duathlon championships
Lee Valley VeloPark. Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. E30 3AB.
Purpose built 1 mile track with undulating terrain, fast surface! This race also serves as the club champs for duathlon.

Round 4 - 15 May - Crystal Palace Triathlon (750m pool swim, 20km bike, 5km run) Serpentine Sprint Distance championships
Crystal Palace Park. SE19 2BB.
The course takes place in a national sports complex, with riding around a closed course, then a run course through the park. This race serves as the club championship for Sprint triathlon. The entries for this race open on the 31st January. The venet usually sells out very quickly so make sure you sign up on the 31st!

Round 5 - 22 May - Ful-On-Duathlon (6km run, 24km bike, 6km run)
Dunsfold Park, Cranleigh, Surrey, GU6 8TB
aka Top Gear test track!!!!!
This is a ripper course. Running laps on the runway, then riding around the taxiways. You can see the skid marks from famous corners of the hot lap course from Top Gear! Worth while just to get onto the course. If that's not your thing, then this is certainly the place to set a PB as it's dead flat. Entries are open for this race too, and are capped at 300.

Round 6 - 5 June - Clash of the Tritons (750m pool swim, 5km run)
Charlton Lido and Lifestyle Club. Hornfair Park. Shooters Hill Road. SE18 4LX.
This aquathon proves to be quite a friendly one. Another good heated 50m pool to swim in, and enough time to catch those pesky swimmers if you're more of a runner. The entries for this race are not yet open.

Round 7 - 18 June - Jetstream Triathlon (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run)
Merchant Taylors' School. Sandy Lodge. Northwood. Middlesex. HA6 2HT.
This triathlon is the first of the season that has an open water swim! As such, it usually sells out quickly. If it's not your thing, you can easily enter the aquabike (swim/bike. Gaining popularity, particularly those with running injuries!) or the aquathon if you're not yet bored of them! Entries are open for this race.

Round 8 - 26 June - Windrush Aquathon (500m swim, 5km run) Serpentine Aquathlon championships
Brockwell Lido, Herne Hill, SE24 0PA.
Another aquathon with a pool swim and a run through the park.

We will send another email the remainder of the races soon. These races cater for all. These races are very inclusive to beginners, and also provide great competition for more advanced triathletes.

When entering make sure you choose Serpentine Triathlon Club. The top three males and females score for the club, and last year we did very well. Also there's points for shear numbers of participation in the "Mob match". It would be great to see Serpentine podium for all three events!

If you plan on doing multiple races, points are awarded based on performances at each race. Your top 4 races (one must be a triathlon) count towards your final score and you are ranked within your 5 year age group (e.g. 25-29, 30-34).

Also, to remind you, the following events have been chosen as our Club Championships events:

  • 8 May - Dragon Slayer Duathlon (3 mile run, 15 mile bike, 2 mile run) Serpentine Duathlon championships
  • 15 May - Crystal Palace Triathlon (750m pool swim, 20km bike, 5km run) Serpentine Sprint Distance championship
  • 26 June - Windrush Aquathon (500m swim, 5km run) Serpentine Aquathlon championship
  • 17 July both Olympic and middle distance Championships are taking place: Challenge Roth and Thorpe Park Olympic Triathlon. Challenge Roth has been sold out for a while now, but you can still sign up for the Olympic distance event here
  • And last but not least, Vitruvian Middle Distance Championships take place on 10th September (Sold Out).

When entering please make sure you choose Serpentine as your club.

For more information please ask Alex, Aga, Ryan, or any of Serpentine's amazing triathlon coaches.
