#MedalMonday – 28 October 2024

One of the special joys of our sport is taking part in a race when an elite at the front performs a new feat of human endeavour. Philip Whitehouse was lucky to be there when a new world record of 57:30 was set in the Valencia Half Marathon by Yomif Kejelcha, in spite of a technical if rather flat course in the rain, with a few slippery turns and puddles.

In the Crystal Palace Half Marathon, Jack Robinson stormed in to first place on a ‘tough course’ in 1:13:34 – pretty astonishing given he did x-country the day before.

Adrian Kerr came in at an impressive 03:10:10 in the Frankfurt Marathon.

Serpies were also out running in the beautiful Venice Marathon, where Nicola Barberis Negra came 41st in his category in just over 3:12, and Victoria Barberis Brown was 14th in hers in a little over 3:44.

Back in gloriously-sunny Britain, on Saturday Frank Womelsdorf enjoyed his run along the seaside in the Lancing 10k, finishing in under 44 minutes.

Closer to home, James Conlon came in second place at 1:00:15 in the 10-mile Ricky Road Run in Rickmansworth, celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Sarah Weare are ran the tough Snowdonia Marathon in a little over 5:14

While some Serpies (naming no names) might still recovering from last weekend’s racing, Hilary Briggs, fresh from the podium in the Triathlon World Championships at Torremolinos, powered out to pick up first female in the 25 mile TT organised by Brighton Mitre, near Loxwood in Sussex.

Storming onto the podium in the relatively new but hugely fun competitive fitness events – with a big run element – that are attracting more and more people of all ages across the globe, Roger Reid came in second at Hyrox Birmingham.
