Victoria Park Open 5M (22 Mar 2008)

Victoria Park Open 5 mile championships of today (Saturday 22 March) was run in 29mph winds, rain, sunshine and sleet, so times weren't pb-level, but it was a class race with the top 3 male prizes and top female prize (cash awards) being taken by Africans. Despite the weather - an exogenous factor - as always with races organised by Victoria Park Harriers, the organisation was superb: accurate mile-markers, excellent marshalling and timing, cosy changing facilties, bag storage and yummy home-made refreshments after the race. Race results were out quickly too. And you can tell it was a class race: there was no water station (but then if you need one in a 5-mile race, in those conditions, I wonder whether you should be running at all)!

I did 35:47 and won 1st W50 trophy. But I wasn't the fastest Serpie Level 3 coach there today.

Victoria Park Open 5M (27 Mar 2010)

Slightly breezy but otherwise perfect race conditions. The course was fast and flat, had chip timing and was well marshaled.

Good facilities with warm showers, good tea, bagels and cakes at the end.

Despite having a very good standard at the front the race wasn't overly crowded and had a friendly atmosphere.

Printouts of individual gun and chip times were available immediately after the race. Full results are on www.stuweb.co.uk/swp/default.asp?a=2&e=414
