Clarendon Way Half Marathon (01 Oct 2006)
The Clarendon Way is growing in popularity as one of the most scenic off-road races in southern England, and this year a total of over 1100 runners took part in a marathon from Winchester to Salisbury, a half marathon (the second half of the marathon course) and a four stage relay over the marathon course.
The course is fairly hilly and conditions were tough with some very muddy and slippy paths, rain and a gusting headwind. Additionally, a forced change to the usual finish venue made the courses about half a mile long. The times reflected this with only five people finishing the half marathon in under 1:30 and two breaking 3:00 for the marathon.
The organisation of this race is excellent, with seemingly most of the senior citizens of Wiltshire turning out as marshals. There were no Serpie teams in the relay this year
