Cross Country Season 2024-25
Serpentine takes part in two leagues, and many championship races.
Whether you’re a championship racer hoping to run fast times and podium this season, or a first-timer looking for some Autumn running fun – there’s a cross-country race for everyone!
The Leagues
Met League
A London League for All! 69 of our members participated across the Met League series in 23/24.
Currently formed of 23 athletic and running clubs from around London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Middlesex, running 5 fixtures between October and February, for athletes from 9yo upwards.
- 5 fixtures between October and February
- Fixtures are in Central/North London on a Saturday afternoon
- Competitive, yet friendly
- Score for the club no matter what position you finish in
In the 2023/24 season, Katy Casterton finished the series as 3rd Senior Woman, Tash Sheel 5th and Megan Hunt 10th. In the Teams’ competitions, our SW finished 4th in Div 1, as did our Vet Men A in Div 1, and Vet Men B in Div 3. Can we convert 4th to the podium this season?
There’s no pre-registration, you can turn up on the day and collect a number from Met League captain, Katy Casterton. Email Katy to help with pre-allocating numbers and let her know you’re planning to run – kacasterton@gmail.com.
For more information check out the league’s website https://metleague.run/.
Sunday League
The winter version of Summer League, without the picnic/relays, and lots more mud!
Fixtures are in locations just north of London on a Sunday morning
- Men/Women run in the same race
- Friendly, but still competitive
- Courses are slightly easier than the Met League
For more information about the Sunday League, email our Sunday League Captain Chris Notton – chris@notton.com
Championship races
The races where medals and trophies are up for grabs!
In 2023/24 season we had successes in the Liddiard Trophy where our Men and Women won the competitions, led by Katy Casterton (2nd place overall) and Fred Smithers (3rd place overall). In the North London XC Championships our Women’s Team were victorious with a clean sweep of the podium from Katy Casterton, Holly Woodhead and Tash Sheel. In the Men’s competition, Hugh Torry was 2nd V40 and Victor Lio 6th overall.
There are a range of championship races which are listed in the table below – beginning with the Southern Cross-Country Relays on 19th October.
Championship races require pre-entry – paid and organised centrally by the club. Complete this form to sign-up for these races – https://forms.office.com/e/WU6PPSXpBQ
